Celebrate Diwali - the Festival of Lights!
Diwali is an important festival that symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, hope over despair and new beginnings. Its name comes from the word “Deepavali,” which translates into “row of lamps”, as Indians light lamps and candles during this 5-day period to rid themselves of any spiritual darkness. Rituals are performed in the home, culminating in outdoor fireworks celebrations. During Diwali, you’ll get to see another dimension in Hindu culture that is based in a story similar to Christmas in the west. Diwali begins a new year in the Hindu calendar. We will find that markets are lively and filled with beautiful Indian decorations and clothing. A great excuse to buy gifts and souvenirs!
